NUBIAN EMPRESS #1 – Continued from my series on femininity. Featuring athletic model, Naomi Davis, for her stage presence and confidence, I chose royalty to convey a strength and power of womanhood. I constructed a wardrobe and headdress around a modified Upper Egyptian design, recalling the Black Pharaohs of Nubia.
SATORI (Enlightenment) – I had the pleasure of working with model, Bien Infante, several times prior to capturing this image. Following a catalog shoot, a topical conversation between us progressed into an existential exchange about meaning. Inspired by this, I chose the doves beyond reach of the unclothed man, free from worldly trappings, and bound to earth to embody humanity’s quest for enlightenment. The Japanese word, “Satori”, in the Buddhist context, has multiple meanings. It can be wisdom attained through prayer and meditation, the ecstasy of transcendence, or the hard-learned lesson of a violent kick to the head. No matter how far man may come, enlightenment or “Satori” reveals itself in its own time.

EARTH GODDESS #1 – The first of a series of concept images on femininity. Life is cradled in the light reflected by her fair complexion. The earth-mother archetype represents a sacred vessel from which all life is born. She is sensual and complex nurturer who rules from the water’s edge, the birthplace of earthbound life. EARTH GODDESS features hair and cosmetic model, Caroline Reddy, and she is adorned with a crown and body wrap I have constructed out of woodland botanical samples, native grasses and wild flowers.
